Thoughts on Macross Frontier: The False Songstress

Macross Frontier is one of the series I followed when I started writing on this blog two years ago, and it was one of the best series I’ve watched at least when mecha battles and music were concerned. So it’s no surprise that I was waiting to watch the theatrical version of the series, and I finally saw The False Songstress around a week ago. Despite liking the anime series so much, I find myself having little to say about the movie other than that “it was pretty good”.

Thoughts on Summer Wars

I watched Summer Wars a couple of weeks ago, but I didn’t get around to writing about it due to me being lazy and busy at the same time. Summer Wars is of course the Mamoru Hosoda anime film about a math whiz and his upperclassman’s entire extended family trying to stop an errant program from crashing both a popular virtual world and the real world. Even though I’ve put this post under the “Reviews” category, this post is just some random thoughts I feel like writing down after watching the movie. Writing a well-versed and structured review just feel like too tall of a task for me these days lol.

Post contains spoilers.

Movie Review: “Avatar” (2009)

I finally saw Avatar. Actually, I saw Avatar about four weeks ago, but didn’t get around to writing about it until today. I actually wanted to see it in January, but I wanted to see it in IMAX 3D and the theaters were packed back then. As almost all of you probably know, Avatar is James Cameron’s latest mega-budget blockbuster that is now the highest grossing film of all time. This post is just a collection of my thoughts on the film, so it’s not really a movie review per se, but I’ll put it in my review category for organization’s sake.

Review: Eureka Seven: Pocket Full of Rainbows

I don’t watch anime films very often, but once in a while something will catch my attention. This time it’s Eureka Seven: Pocket Full of Rainbows, which is of course the film adaptation to Bones’ much beloved anime series about sky-surfing mecha and teenage romance. I was looking forward to this movie given how enjoyable the Eureka Seven anime series was, but unfortunately Pocket Full of Rainbows turned out to be a disappointment.

Review: The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

Since most ongoing anime series took a break, I thought this would be a good time to change things up a bit and write an anime movie review. This review is for The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, a film that has received glowing praise (and some even think it’s the best anime movie ever). Given that reputation, I had to see the film myself, and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time turned out to be a very enjoyable and charming movie.

Review: Afro Samurai: Resurrection

Afro Samurai: Resurrection is a sequel movie to Afro Samurai, which was a short, five-episode series made by Gonzo that aired in 2007. The series was notable for its take of the samurai + hip hop style and Hollywood voice talent in the form of Samuel L. Jackson and others. The story didn’t make all that much sense, but it was very well animated and gloriously violent, and that’s probably the main reason why I like the series. Resurrection works along the same lines as the predecessor, but I feel that it wasn’t as good as the series.

Movie Review: “The Dark Knight” (2008) on IMAX

It’s been more than a year since the last time I watched a movie in the theatres, and it’s been longer since my family went out for a movie together. So last weekend we went to the local theatre and picked the biggest blockbuster of the summer, The Dark Knight, and watched it on the huge IMAX screen. Since this is the first time I have watched any film on IMAX, this article is a review for both the movie and the IMAX experience. Overall The Dark Knight on IMAX was an impressive experience, so keep on reading to find out more.

Movie Review: “Rambo” (2008)

It’s been a long time since my last movie review. That’s probably because I don’t really go to the theatres that much or rent movies. Anyways, here is one of the rare occasions that I actually watched a (reasonably) new movie, which is the new Rambo film, starring Sylvester Stallone (can’t really be anybody else). So read on if you want to know what I think about this film.

Movie Review: “Brotherhood of the Wolf” (2002)

I haven’t written anything myself for a while now, so I decided to practice my writing skills again by writing a movie review. The subject film this time is some fairly recent movie that I saw on television. It’s a French action-horror-adventure-whatever (I watched a dubbed version) flick called the Brotherhood of the Wolf. I remember reading a fairly favourable review for this movie so I decided to watch the whole thing, and here is my review of this film.

Movie Review: “The Grudge” (2004)

Even though I’m supposed to be studying like mad for my end-of-term exams, I took the time to dig around my old stuff and found a movie review I wrote back in grade 12 for film class. The review is about the horror movie The Grudge, which is an American remake of one of those typical Japanese “ghost girl” movies (ex. The Ring). It was an okay film overall, but I don’t like horror movies in general, because I’m not exactly what people would call “brave” and some horror movies make me uncomfortable.
