Flower Photos

Photos of the various plants that grows in my family’s backyard. The newest entries are listed first.

$Another flower shot with my new camera, and this time I\'ve caught a bumblebee foraging inside a fuchsia. I didn\'t move the camera closer because I did want to get stung.$ $This is a photo of a cypress vine flower taken with my new camera. My father had been trying to grow cypress vine for the last three year, but this year is the first time that the plants produced flowers. The flowers are pretty small and hard to photograph with the old camera, but it\'s not a problem with the new camera$ $The first flower photo of 2009 is here!!! Actually my family has taken lots of photos of our blooming garden already, but I decided to wait until we have a photo of something that I haven\'t posted before. This is a close up photo of some Sweet William plants. They are biennials that didn\'t bloom last year, but this year they are just an explosion of color!$ $Fall is already upon us, but there are still some flowers left in my family\'s backyard. Here\'s a brightly-coloured dahlia from the garden. We used to only have one variety of dahlia, but now there are many more. The weather is getting cold now and these flowers probably won\'t last for much longer, but there\'s always next year.$ $More flower photos: here is some hydrangea that\'s in my garden. Hydrangeas are really good plants because they flower for a long time and don\'t get sick easily. The flowers also have this cool ability to change colour through the summer and fall (has something to do with the acidity of the soil), so these flowers you see here will probably turn red/pink in a month or so.$ $This is a photo of some pink roses growing in my backyard. The light pink colour of these roses contrast nicely with the vibrant and iridescent blue of the lobelia in the background. These roses were already in the yard when my family bought the home, and they are seem to fairly popular in the area we live in. The variety is \"Queen Elizabeth\".$ $We have some additions to our rose collection this year, and here\'s one of them. We bought it as a climbing rose, although it\'s in a pot at the moment. Nevertheless, this rose has a beautiful bloom and here\'s a shot of some of the flowers.$ $A beautiful rose from my garden. If you look through my photos in the past years you\'ll notice the same variety of rose listed under names such as \"red rose\" or \"salmon-pink rose\", but this year my family finally found out that the rose is of the variety of hybrid tea rose called \"folklore\". We\'re pretty sure that we got the correct variety as roses of this colour are not that common. Anyways, the folklore rose is as beautiful as ever, and it also has a delightful tea-like scent.$

$The oriental poppy in my garden is blooming again. They just have this really eye-catching bright colour. My camera is known for taking washed-out photos, but the poppy\'s colour is just too vibrant.$ $Fuchsias are one of my mother\'s favourite plants, and as a result we have a couple of varieties of these guys in our garden. Here is a shot of some two pink ones that had bloomed early. They are certainly curious looking flowers and have very vibrant colours.$

$t\'s really spring time now (even though it snowed two weeks ago) and here is another photo of an early bloomer: a daffodil. My family\'s garden has always had daffodils, but this is the first good close-up photo that we managed to get. We have a total of four varieties of these lovely plants.$ $Spring is in the air, and this is just the right time to start posting flower photos for 2008. We\'ll start the year off with some early bloomers - some purple crocuses. They are the only flowers in the garden at the moment, but more will be coming really soon.$

$Last year the garden only had one variety of dahlia, but that\'s no longer the case this year. This year there are yellow, white, orange and red varieties along with the old purple one. Here\'s an example of the red variety.$ $My family planted a few varieties of lilies in the garden so here\'s a shot of the most recent bloom. This is a yellow asiatic lily. Asiatic lilies aren\'t fragrant like the stargazer lilies we have but they still look great. You can also get a glimpse of a red asiatic lily below the big yellow one.$ $Here\'s a photo of one of the rarer flowers in my garden. The peony is a long lived plant, but it only produces a few flowers a year and the flowers don\'t last very long. This year there were only three, and this is the only one that actually opened up fully.$ $The flurry of flower photos continue. Here\'s a closeup shot of some daisy flowers. Apparently I mistakenly called them Margarita daisies when I first uploaded them. In fact they are not since the colour is incorrect. Margaritas are either yellow or gold. Anyways, these flowers got this rich pink colour to them, which makes them stand out among the other garden plants.$ $If you flipped through my gallery before you might have noticed that there\'s a really nice photo called \"Red Rose\" from 2006. Well, that rose was really more of a salmon pink than real red. This year my garden has some newly acquired \"truly\" red roses, and here is the first flower that bloomed. Doesn\'t it look nice? All the roses are starting to flower so there will be many more photos to come .$ $This is a photo of a large oriental poppy in my garden. My family bought this plant last year but this is the first time it has flowered. It\'s a good photo by my standards, but as you all probably can see, my standards for my own photos aren\'t very high. Enjoy the nice bright flower anyways.$

$Here\'s another flower photo for the year 2007. This time it\'s two newly bloomed tulips. I\'m not sure what variety these tulips belongs to, but they\'ve got some nice colours.$

$After an unusually cold, windy, and snowy winter, spring is finally here, so it\'s only appropriate to post another flower photo. This is a shot of a white camellia flower from one of the three camellia bushes in my garden. Ain\'t it pretty?$ $I said there would be more closeup flower shots, so here is one. This is another flower that came from that pack of \"wildflower\" seeds. After some research, the plant actually turned out to be a calendula. In the shot it\'s showing off its pretty yellow flower. Enjoy.$ $Haha, you people must be starting to get sick of these flower closeup pictures. Too bad, since there will be a lot more to come lol. Here\'s one of the \"mystery\" plants that came from a pack of so-called \"wildflower\" seeds. Turns out after some research that this is a corn poppy, a pretty popular annual plant with cute flowers. I\'m getting pretty decent at these closeup flower shots aren\'t I hahaha.$ $Here\'s another one of my garden flower pics. This time it\'s a blackeye susan closeup shot. I\'m getting somewhat better at this. Hope you\'ll enjoy.$

$This is another shot of a beautiful flower that grew in my backyard. It\'s a variety of dahlia and it is a pretty large flower (around 30cm across) and it definitely is pretty. One of the best photos I\'ve ever taken I think hahaha. Taken in summer of 2006.$ $Here\'s a photo of a beautiful rose in backyard of my home. I\'m not sure what type of rose this is but it sure is pretty.$
