Analysis of Bill Joy’s “Why the Future Doesn’t Need Us”

Here is another one of my essays written for a technology & society class. This essay is a short analysis of Bill Joy’s famous article, “Why the Future Doesn’t Need Us”. The doom-and-gloom article created quite the stir in the tech community mainly because Joy is a very well-respected member of the tech elite. I personally am not really convinced by the article, although it does raise some valid concerns about the advancement of technology. If you want to read what I thought of the article then feel free to read on.

Review: Macross Zero (OVA)

Today we look at the five episode OVA series Macross Zero. The main reason why I wanted to watch Macross Zero is because of Macross Frontier. Macross Frontier was my favorite anime series of 2008. Frontier featured reference to several previous Macross series, but it has the closest connections to Macross Zero, which I haven’t seen until yesterday (the day before I wrote this review). As expected of a Macross series, Macross Zero contains its share of quality action, love triangle(s), and music, although action seems to be the main focus this time around while the other aspects are somewhat overlooked.

Review: Love Hina

For the last school term, I spent most of my break time at school reading manga, since I can’t really do homework without my textbooks or my personal computer. Other than reading the series that I already follow, I also spent time reading Love Hina by Ken Akamatsu. I wanted to check out Love Hina because its name keeps popping up whenever there’s a discussion about harem romantic comedies. It took the entire school term to finish all of the chapters (since I was only reading during breaks), and I’ve decided to write a short review for this series:

Video Game Position Paper

Here is a position paper that I had write for one of my university courses. The subject is about whether if violent video games promote real-life aggression, a topic that is riddled with controversy so it’s always fun to talk about. I took the “no” stance for this paper, although I think this topic is a lot more about opinions than facts. Take a look if you are interested.

Back to School

After four months of working, I’m back in school once again. Going back to school means I will be a bit busier at home because of all the studying and the assignments, so I probably won’t have much time to write new articles, create new artwork, or work on other web-related projects. That doesn’t mean I won’t try to squeeze a bit of time in though, but content for this site might be a little scarce for a while. Well, I think I said this a couple of posts ago and it turned out to be blatant lie when I posted two articles right after. Hopefully I’ll find something interesting to write about while I’m at school.

Movie Review: “The Dark Knight” (2008) on IMAX

It’s been more than a year since the last time I watched a movie in the theatres, and it’s been longer since my family went out for a movie together. So last weekend we went to the local theatre and picked the biggest blockbuster of the summer, The Dark Knight, and watched it on the huge IMAX screen. Since this is the first time I have watched any film on IMAX, this article is a review for both the movie and the IMAX experience. Overall The Dark Knight on IMAX was an impressive experience, so keep on reading to find out more.

TonyJiang.com: Second Year on the Net

TonyJiang.com’s second anniversary has arrived, and just like last anniversary I decided to write an article about my web ventures of the previous 12 months. Compared to the first year, there weren’t as many major events, because I didn’t move the sites nor did I have as much time to work on my websites. I have added one new website to the tonyjiang.com network in the past 12 months, and all the other sites are doing okay. Keep on reading if you want to find out the details of my (not so) exciting ventures on the web during the last year.

My (First Half of) Third Year of University

Another year has passed by and it’s time again to write my yearly reflection article. However, because I joined the co-operative education program, I only had one school term during the past year and spent the other eight months working. So therefore this article really only covers half of my third year in regards to school terms, but it is about the third year that I spent as a university student. As always, I’ve been brewing up a storm wherever I went… just kidding. Unlike previous years though, there were a couple of moments/events that were out of the ordinary, so read on if you want to find out more about my third year as a university student.

New Laptop: Compaq A939CA

It’s been almost four years since my family has gotten a new computer. Usually I’m the one who gets the fastest computer in the house, but this time around the new computer is for my dad. The old computer that he was using was getting unbearably slow even for web surfing and word processing, so it was finally time to get him a new computer. After considering all the factors, we decided to get a 17 inch laptop, the Compaq A900 series (model A939CA). This article is not a really a review of the laptop, but just a short document about setting it up and my first impressions of the laptop (and also Windows Vista), plus a couple of pictures of the machine for people to see.
