A Whimsical Winter

It’s March and technically it’s (or is) close to spring, so time again to summarize my adventures and shenanigans over the past season. My big trip during the winter was to China, but I also had a work trip and did a little bit of skiing. Here are the photo and video highlights, whimsical or not.

Spent the last morning of 2025 skiing Cypress Mountain. Not the biggest ski hill but the views on a bluebird day are absolutely phenomenal. The mountains, the sea and the cities below.
Skiing down Edelweiss Bowl at Alpental. A challenging black diamond trail for me, so took it slow. Early in the winter the snow was decent.
Haven’t been to Grouse Mountain since winter 2018/19. This year they are a bonus mountain on the Ikon Pass, so went to check it out. Has not been a good snow season in the PNW, but good to ski down the Cut heading towards North Vancouver and Burnaby below.
Went to the Pray for Snow Party at the top of Crystal Mountain. Didn’t really work unfortunately.
My other winter trip was to Chicago for a company event. Given it was Chicago in winter, it was very cold and I hardly went outside. I’ve done the touristy things in downtown Chicago a few years ago, so just hung out at the convention center. Here’s the view from a brief stroll by Lake Michigan.
Stood front row at the company employee concert. First time front row concert experience. Fun energy and loud up front.
Went razor clamming again this year. Worst outing so far and only got one clam. Got there a little late and all the easy ones were already dug out.
Visited Bainbridge Island for the first time. Pretty small and relatively quiet “downtown” area. Nice views on the ferry ride back though.

Overall it has been a decent winter. The big highlight is my trip to China to see family. The ski season hasn’t been that great in the PNW, and that with the travels meant I skied less than previous years. I do plan on going a spring ski trip, to try to rack up enough days on the Ikon Pass to make it worthwhile haha. That’s it for this edition of seasonal highlights.
