New Background Images

I added some background images for the current theme for this website/blog. I’ve wanted to add background images since I switched to the current WordPress theme in 2016(!), but work and other hobbies have gotten in the way. I used to dabble in digital art (my gallery), but haven’t done much for the last few years because laziness and work. Now that I have some time on my hands, I decided to finally add the backgrounds.

With the advent of generative AI, creating digital art has become easier than before. Just open up ChatGPT or Meta.ai and give the text description of the image you want… well actually creating some images is easy, but creating the exact image I want isn’t quite that simple. Having used ChatGPT (Dall-E) and Meta.ai, my experience is that they don’t quite get it when you want a specific perspective. Dall-E seems better than Meta in this regard, but limits for image generation on free tier is much lower than Meta. It’s a good opportunity for me to use Photoshop and shake off the rust a little bit.

The good thing about the background images is that I don’t want the to be super detailed. The purpose is to add some color to the blog theme, but the focus should still be on the blog post(s) or page that the user is reading. With some blending, adjustments and filters, I made a few images that were good enough for the purpose.

Generative AI is very convenient for creating things that don’t need to be accurate like artwork for a small website. Currently they are still missing some consistency that professional artists can produce, but digital artists probably will have a tougher time as these gen AI models get better. As for me, I am trying to get with the times and learn how to use these tools.
